out of all 2731 users i wonder how many log in?

i think if you've just joined but you don't log in for say a month the zone should send you an email reminding you about your acount!

i know people can log in when they want but just an idea

I agree totally. My two neighbours (1205 and 1207) - I have never seen them, for example.

couldnt we reassign the ids i mean for the ids who never come like those who havent logged in for years couldnt those ids be reassigned so all the ids would be used

Post 4 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 01-Nov-2005 12:05:35

yes. that's a good idea!

Post 5 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 01-Nov-2005 15:27:00

there are not 2731 users, those are just ID's, not all numbers are used, and that doesn't count they've banned several, and also, only about 2150 people now

Post 6 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 01-Nov-2005 15:28:15

2142 people at time of post

Post 7 by Inesle1987 (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 02-Nov-2005 2:43:59

Oh good to know. I didn't know that.

Post 8 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 02-Nov-2005 8:11:58

2150 now

Post 9 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Wednesday, 02-Nov-2005 8:19:25

it's not possible to re-assign the ID's, each user has an ID in the database, so changing that would just mess up the data. I agree that perhaps an account should be deactivated if not used for a period of time, say 6 months, and that if the user wanted to come back he/she would have to have his/her account varified as is the process with new accounts, but you can't delete old accounts because of what it does to board posts ... etc.

Post 10 by lights_rage (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 02-Nov-2005 9:40:42

hmmm i dont know about the whole data base thing i think it could be done honestly they could run back through the boards and clean that up thats for sure because it takes a lot of space doesnt it?

Post 11 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 02-Nov-2005 11:24:43

well, I've seen them take shit off of the boards, think of when that 1 fucker was writing the word that crashes jaws. that wasn't too fun, and his sshit was gone in a matter of minutes. you'll stil see his name though, but no more board posts, no more logins, no more of him, his profile's wiped out

Post 12 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Wednesday, 02-Nov-2005 12:41:02

Each account doesn't take up much space. Ya could probably put all 2150 on a floppy, the account info at least. There's 2700 IDs because of people who never verified accounts, are disabled, etc.

Post 13 by sugarbaby (The voice of reason) on Wednesday, 02-Nov-2005 12:53:03

na j I think what mg is referring to is the amount of space the board posts take up. I could be wrong about this of course but I think that's it. It would still mess up the database to re-jig the ID's though, and .. really, does it matter if the ID next to yours has never logged in?

Post 14 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Wednesday, 02-Nov-2005 12:53:26

wow j, never guessed

Post 15 by The Lil Dark Piggy (This site is so "educational") on Wednesday, 02-Nov-2005 13:45:52

Yes, that is a very good idea!

I don't think it's that people forget their account, I think they just get disinterested. When I was reading profiles, while I was looking for more people in my age range, I found a lot of people's names who have never logged in but once, and some even never.

see, here's the thing. I'm sure it'd be really easy to change everyone's user ID numbers, or fill in the user ids of the people who don't log on anymore with new users, but see this is a ranking system. The older one's user ID is, it's automatically assumed that they older the user is, and the longer they've been on the zone. Right now, if we disabled say, account number 3, and someone else took it over, then a lot of people will naturally assume that he's a fairly old zone user. I don't know, maybe it's just me, what do you all think?

Post 18 by yankee g wolverine (Account disabled) on Thursday, 03-Nov-2005 17:59:08

keep it the way it is, it's pointless to change, it's not like it makes a huge difference anyway

Post 19 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 04-Nov-2005 22:09:10

Yeah I see what you mean, if I left for example, and you assigned user number 594, (that's me) to a new user, they'd think it was me. I personally don't care what happens to my account if I decide at some point to leave, it will just either be there or not be there.

i still think it's a good idea! if the users arn't logging in it's just a waste of id numbers

Let's me try this board. This is my first time to join on this board.

Post 22 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Saturday, 05-Nov-2005 13:23:47

Actually, instead of assigning old ID's, couldn't the ones who don't come on here at all be gotten rid of, especially if they don't have anything in their profile? Like say if I hadn't come on for oh like a year and a half or something, hadn't logged in at all or posted at all to the Boards, then there'd be no point in keeping my profile on since I wasn't actively using my Zone ID and noone would be losing anything since my name wouldn't be attached to any Board posts. There could be an automatic reminder every 3 to 6 months, and if the person didn't at least sign in once during those times, maybe after a year and a half, (unless they have Board posts), they could be deleted. Just a thought. *smiles*

Post 23 by maddog (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 05-Nov-2005 20:01:44

actually, we were thinking about the whole getting rid of other user's profiles. We still might do this, because well, people really don't need to see the profiles of already disabled accounts.

Post 24 by admin (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 13-Dec-2005 0:55:42

Wow, this is old, but... I believe we now hide the profiles of disabled accounts if you tried to view one.

The way things work internally, even if you only log in and do nothing else, your ID is referenced in other tables. Removing and reassigning your ID yould not play nicely with our current auditing methods.

Hmmm Vent, you mean a nudge system? On LiveJournal, theres a tool that if a friend of say user: blindvi sees this user inactive for oh say 2 or 3 months because of various reason, they can send a nudge. Just a way of saying "Hey you have a account, just letting you know I haven't seen you on here in a while." Then thats the job of the nudged user to log into LJ and create a entry.
